Jacksonville Induction: June 9-13, 2019 Jacksonville University Jacksonville, Florida Induction Survey - Due: May 10, 2019
THE JACKSONVILLE WELCOME EXPERIENCE Your introduction to the corps member life, and the city you will call home for at least the next two years, will begin with a four-day learning adventure in which you will connect with our fellow corps members, alumni, staff and community members. You'll learn about the students whose lives we set out to positively affect, but who often leave us changed beyond recognition. Together we will dig into ourselves, our student data and our potential for impact. This four day time span is Jacksonville-specific, with the purpose of grounding you in the work to be carried out, in part, by your hands and heart.
TRAVEL GUIDANCE: You will be responsible for arranging your own transportation to our city, and should plan to arrive early on the afternoon of June 9th (specific times will be confirmed shortly). For those who will be driving into the city, you will likely be able to park your car on campus for Jacksonville Induction, Florida Induction and Institute. Both Induction and Institute teams are working with their respective universities to determine if there will be any additional costs for parking.
Florida Induction: June 13-15, 2019 Barry University Miami, Florida
THE FLORIDA CONTINUUM COLLABORATION
At the conclusion of our Jacksonville Induction, we'll travel to Miami to join the other Florida regions for the first ever Florida Continuum Induction. The collaborative learning experience will be the time when we talk about what's at stake for education in Florida, since, ultimately, each of our regions (Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami) go to work every day to bring about one thing: One Day in Florida. We'll look at education from a statewide perspective, and consider what has to be true in each region in order for Teach For America to be successful in the state.
TRAVEL GUIDANCE: You will not need to arrange transportation to Miami from Jacksonville, our staff will handle all arrangements as we will journey from Jacksonville to Miami together. Get ready for the fun! More details to come as time gets closer.
Miami Institute: June 17, 2019 - July 19, 2019 Barry University Miami, Florida Institute Survey - Due: May 6, 2019
YOUR REAL-TIME PREPARATION FOR LIFE AS A CLASSROOM EDUCATOR
Institute is the time where you will build and practice skills, increase your classroom-specific knowledge and challenge/grow in mindsets that will help you to be prepared for the first day of school. You'll work with your fellow corps members to discover your "teacher identity" and begin the process of building your "teacher toolbox" - a set of resources you will use to manage and educate your students in the fall. Be prepared for long days that will create memories that you will carry with you forever.
TRAVEL GUIDANCE: You will be responsible for arranging your travel from Miami to the destination of your choice at the conclusion of institute. All travel should be booked on July 20, 2019, rather than on the 19th, as there we still be programming that day. Where you go post-institute will largely be determined by personal desire and need - some corps members choose to come directly to Jacksonville, and others choose to rest with family or travel a bit before work life starts. Whatever you decide, please save room in your budget for this expense if you choose not to make arrangements now.
