LaKeisha currently serves as the Managing Director of Program Continuum for Teach For America-Jacksonville. This year marks her 6th year on Teach For America’s staff, and 17th year overall serving as a champion for public education. Lakeisha is originally from Sumter, South Carolina, and is a proud graduate of THE historic Shaw University where she double majored in Mathematics and Secondary Math Education. After graduation, she taught high school math in Raleigh, NC at William G. Enloe Gifted and Talented Magnet/IB High School for 6 years and later left North Carolina to pursue a continuation of her career in the DC/Maryland area.
After completing her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and School Administration at East Carolina University, Lakeisha transitioned to Washington D.C. to take part in the reform efforts under the leadership of Chancellor Michelle Rhee. In D.C., she served two years as a school turnaround instructional specialist for mathematics, science, and exploratory sciences at John P. Sousa Middle School. Lakeisha later transitioned to the role of Assistant Principal for Intervention at Sousa Middle School, where she managed the school’s Full Service School Turn-Around Model and also served as the 6th and 8th grade level administrator.
